Welcome!
Thanks for reading the first issue of Neurodivergent Writers.
In each issue, you'll get resources for your writing and creative journey that are specifically geared toward neurodivergent people.
Let's dig in.
Kindle Monthly Deals
Every month, there are hundreds of books that are priced as deals for Kindle only. Sure, you may be anti-Amazon, and I get it. However, if you've committed to eBooks, Kindle deals are a great way to expand your library.
This newsletter features eBooks that are specifically relevant to writers. You may already have them all! But if not, it's a great way to build your resource library. (I have a few of these in paperback, but got the Kindle deals for easier highlights and referencing.)
Note: I do NOT use Amazon affiliate links.
Do I Make Myself Clear?
Whether you're writing fiction or nonfiction, long-form or short-form, this book can help get you into a better mindset for writing succinctly. It's also great if you're in the editing phase or simply want to tighten up the way you think about writing.
Writing Without Bullshit
There has never been a shorter collective attention span. If you want people to read what you write, you need to make it interesting... fast. This is a great read if you want to get into the nuts and bolts of good writing that gets to the point. It's relevant for both fiction and nonfiction writers.
Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing
If you want a grammar refresher course that doesn't feel like high school, this book is an easy reference. (Of course, you can also use tools like Grammarly or Hemingway, too!) This book is especially good for anyone who feels like they struggle to "get" grammar basics and doesn't want to feel stupid for needing some extra help. (We all do, by the way. Even the biggest grammar nerds can make mistakes!)
Before and After the Book Deal
If you really want to become a traditionally published author (or you already are!) this reference is invaluable. There's no book quite like it.
Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk
Need to get out of your head? Feel like you're mean to yourself or sabotage your ability to be productive? It's a common theme among neurodivergent creators. This book has some helpful encouragement. Take what you need, ignore what you don't!
You Can't Make This Stuff Up
Writing about real life? This is a classic guide for any type of nonfiction writing, from journalistic pieces to memoir.
The Fiction Writer's Guide to Dialogue
Dialogue can be one of the easiest things for writers... or one of the hardest. Some neurodivergent writers struggle to feel like their dialogue is "natural." If you want examples, this is a great resource.
This Year You Write Your Novel
And finally, the penultimate guide leading up to NaNoWriMo. If you want to write a novel in a month, read this ahead of time for the right preparation and frame of mind.
